Day 1: Arrive in the beautiful Rwanda, the “Land of a thousand Hills”

After your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by your safari driver and transferred to your accommodation in Kigali City. Spend the rest of the day unwinding and preparing for an unforgettable adventure the following day.

Day 2: Depart from Kigali City to Volcanoes National Park, afternoon visit to Gorilla Guardian’s Village

After breakfast at the Hotel, take a quick look around Kigali City for a short excursion, targeting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site before heading to your first destination. Before leaving for Volcanoes National Park, stop for coffee/tea and some snacks before proceeding to the Northern Province of Rwanda, a journey lasting at least 3 hours.

You will arrive at your Lodge on time for lunch, and later start your first Volcanoes National Park adventure. Here, you will be transferred to Gorilla Guardian’s Village, where you will be introduced to medicines that treat common ailments by visiting the traditional healer, taste the local brew by taking part in the brewing process, and be entertained in a traditional dance by the local troupe members.

Day 3: Rwanda Gorilla Tour in Volcanoes National Park and afternoon visit to Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Fund

Today, your venture will be on a gorilla trekking tour in Volcanoes National Park. This Protected Area is a unique and unmissable safari destination with 12 habituated gorilla families, and you will track one of them during this 4-day Rwanda Gorilla Tour. These adventures are available all year round, and you should be prepared for them by donning your hiking boots, carrying your backpack, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and having enough drinking water to have an unforgettable experience.

Attend a briefing at the Kinigi Park Headquarters to go through the dos and don’ts of the trekking adventures and get allocated to one of the 12 habituated gorilla families. Hop into the safari vehicle for the 20-30-minute drive to the trailhead, the starting point for the gorilla family you have been allocated.

Spend the next one to six hours searching for these majestic creatures through the open grassland, evergreen, and bamboo forest while encountering several wildlife and bird species along the way. You will have another 60 minutes in their presence- resting, playing, raising their young, grooming each other, and mating.

Enjoy lunch at the Lodge, and later go for a visit to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Fund. There are different activity options here, and some require advance booking. You will choose from self-guided tours, and donations (to be paid directly by visitors) will be required.
